New idea: Customizable chat filter
New idea: Customizable chat filter
Here's how it works... you add words or phrases to the chat filter box, and anything typed by other people that contain these words gets instantly removed from your chat screen.
Here's an example, say you have some really annoying people you want to ignore, but due to the limit, you can't. Open up the chat filter in the options menu, add some words to it and whallah! No more idiotic displayed messages on your screen. This would work for a variety of situations, PvP or PvE. Add some quick buttons to it like the slang filter button, or the noob filter button, or the WTB/WTS filter button, but also have those filters be customizable. You know, just in case they try to make up new ways to say crap you don't want to hear. Or the single letter filter in case they want to work around things and say N 0 0 B, or if they draw it out like n000000000b, you could add a filter for that as well, like the repeating letter filter. Because I don't think anything with more than 2 of the same letter is actually a word anyway. Maybe have an english (or whatever language you speak) filter too.
For those real pesky individuals that think they need to be heard by others no matter what, and will try any way around it possible, but this of course could be the point at which you put them in your ignore list. Either way, I would think these kind of people would get tired of it and just give up after a while, and maybe say something properly, if they need to be heard at all. I realize this could take a while to set up to work with Guild Wars, but I think it would be a very nice option as an alternate to the ignore list. Also, maybe other games would incorporate this.
chat filter:
---------------------------------------------------------
WTB
WTS
Want to buy
Want to sell
newb
noob
n00b
single letter filter
repeating filter
language (english) filter
elite
leet speak filter
slang filter
---------------------------------------------------------
<chat>
LFG for *insert quest/mission here*
LFG for *insert quest/mission here*, no n00bs please <----- <erased>
Anyone doing the bonus?
Forming a group for *insert quest/mission here*
GLF monks
Ahhh, and at last we have peaceful conversations going on. If they really wanted to form a group, maybe they should of left out the n00b word, otherwise they would be speaking to nobody. The terrorists lose! lol

I'd prefer if the filters are locally stored in a file seperate from gw.dat, so we can share them with each other. Maybe have a subfolder \filters\, with multiple filter files in it. If a chat message contains a text string that matches a line in any of the filter files, and that file is enabled in your options, that msg is filterd.
If you turn off the filter, any hidden chat messages will reappear, like if you toggle the other chats on and off

Yes, I agree.
I also thought of another possible filter, the "Mary Poppins" filter, for those people that don't use any spaces in what they say. Kind of like supercalifragilisticexpialidocious or whatever that word is.

heh not really. If my idea gets implemented you will have to transform your "wts" into somethign totaly unreadable to pass the filter, which kinda defies the point of spamming it.
